Notes:

Fall 2020 and Spring 2021:  Synchronous virtual sessions were offered; however, no students attended. There were plans for a Spring in-person option, but that was not possible due to the COVID-19 pandemic

Fall 2022 and Spring 2023:  Students were required to complete “Mindset & How the Brain Learns” before gaining access to “Time Management.”

Table K:  Mindset FLC + BOOST Mindset Workshops DFWI Rates by Faculty Member, AY 2021-2022

Students in these sections were also exposed to mindset interventions beyond the BOOST workshops. These varied depending on the faculty member and the field of study.  Fall 2021 and spring 2022 are the first semesters for which this data has been compiled.

Strategy/Activity:  Undergraduate Research Symposium

Table P:  Student Comments

  • “The symposium allows students to conduct research and prepare a presentation over what they have learned.  This opportunity has helped prepare me for graduate school and has given me experience presenting research, like I will  be doing in the future.” (MS in plant pathology)
  • “I often have stage fright when it comes to presentations, so I feel the research symposium helped me become more confident.  Presentations are a part of life, so making progress on how to deal with my fears by presenting in from of an audience at the research symposium was a good experience for me.” (BS in Biology)
  • I went on two job interviews and both of them asked me multiple questions about my experience at the research symposium—and neither of the jobs had anything to do with research; they both were in retail.  I wound up taking one of those jobs, and I think talking about the symposium with the employer helped.  They really seemed interested.” (AS in Psychology)
  • The symposium was very eye-opening.  I learned about some subjects I wouldn’t otherwise seek out on my own.  I will be going next semester and the next.  I recommend the symposium to anyone and everyone.” (AS in General Studies)
