Curriculum Design

GCSU aspires to graduate students with creative and problem-solving dispositions that prepare them to be the next leaders of the free world. Georgia College connects teaching excellence with learning beyond the classroom to provide unique undergraduate research experiences for students. Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) defines undergraduate research as, "an inquiry or investigation conducted by an undergraduate student that makes an original, intellectual, or creative contribution to the discipline(s)."

The Capstone is the final embedded experience built into GC Journeys. To “Complete Your Journey” for Capstone, students must successfully complete the capstone course for their program/major. Experiences will be determined by the requirements of the department/major.

The ENDEAVOR program helps students personalize, internalize, and later articulate their transformation beyond a credential. By awarding ENDEAVOR Tags that celebrate student development and engagement through courses and co-curricular activities, students become more aware of their own growth and are provided with the language to describe the skills they have gained. This language will give them an advantage when entering the workforce, as they will be able to describe their college experience in a way that resonates with employers.

At Georgia College, Community-based Engaged Learning (CbEL) courses require student participation in service projects or community engagement (either on campus or through institutional partnerships with off-campus organizations) and integrate the service experience into course content.

Gateway courses have the lowest pass rates. This is particularly difficult for new freshman because it stifles their momentum and motivation to successfully past their first two semester classes and avoid academic warning and/or probation, which also impacts their ability to meet financial aid academic requirements.

We continue to implement ways to help support students both in and out of the classroom to be successful and improve retention.

The project is to update our CPR process to include pressure testing of our Storm Tracks using Curricular Analytics. In addition, we are working to make the CPR process more focused on student success, to make the process a student success activity.

Georgia Tech’s curricular analytics efforts are ongoing to study degree programs, identify majors with high program complexity, and develop adjustments designed to lower complexity and accelerate time to degree completion.

The curricular analytics analysis aligns to the Expand Access focus area of the ISP and overlaps with our examination of equity in student success metrics described in Activity 2. 

Georgia Tech’s Big Idea from Momentum Summit IV in 2021 was to link our Momentum work with our Institute Strategic Plan (ISP) by establishing an internal mini-grant program—the Amplify Momentum Project or GT-AMP.  Evaluating the mini-grant projects and examining their impact was a key component of our 2023 Momentum plan.
